BATON ROUGE, LA – The No. 13 LSU baseball team scored 13 runs on 15 hits to roll past Grambling State University, 13-2, Tuesday night at Alex Box Stadium, Skip Bertman Field.

The Tigers are on the road this weekend in Fayetteville and will take on the Arkansas Razorbacks in a three-game series beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT. Grambling took the 2-0 lead in the top of the first. With shortstop Marshawn Taylor at third after a leadoff single and a throwing error, Taylor scored on an error by the third baseman. With first baseman Daniel Barnet on third base, catcher Johan Mojica singled to left field to drive in the second run of the inning.

LSU cut Grambling’s lead to 2-1 in the first. Second baseman Cole Freeman worked a four-pitch walk to lead of the inning, and shortstop Kramer Robertson singled up the middle to drive him home.

Catcher Jordan Romero led off the bottom of the third with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a ground ball. Jake Slaughter singled to right field to plate the tying run for the Tigers. The first baseman advanced to third on the errant throw home and scored on third baseman Chris Reid’s sacrifice fly to centerfield to give LSU the 3-2 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, centerfielder Zach Watson ripped his first career triple and scored on Freeman’s sacrifice fly to left field, which lifted LSU to the 4-2 lead.

LSU tacked on seven runs in the sixth inning to jump out to a 11-2 lead. With pinch runner Josh Smith on first base, Watson homered to left field. Then, Freeman singled through the left side, and Robertson followed with his third home run in as many games.

Right fielder Greg Deichmann and Romero moved to scoring position via a single and double, respectively, designated hitter Rankin Woley doubled to right-centerfield, driving in both baserunners. Woley advanced to third on a single by Slaughter and scored on Smith’s sacrifice fly to right field, which gave LSU the nine run advantage.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, pinch hitter Bryce Adams laced a two run blast to left field, scoring Freeman from second, who reached earlier on a fielder’s choice, to propel LSU to the 13-2 lead.
