LSU baseball departs for SEC Tournament, Mainieri makes case for home regional bid
BATON ROUGE - The LSU baseball team departed for Hoover, Alabama on Monday, but not before Tigers head coach Paul Mainieri stated his case as to why LSU should host an NCAA regional following this week's SEC tournament.
"We're finished third in the SEC," Mainieri said Monday morning. "Any team that finishes third in the SEC deserves to host a regional."
The Tigers have at least two more chances to add to their 40-win resume: with a first round bye at the SEC tournament, LSU moves into the double-elimination portion of the bracket.
The Tigers begin their tournament title defense on Wednesday, when they face the winner of Tennesseee and Vanderbilt, with the Commodores and Volunteers meeting Tuesday at 9:30AM.
