LSU baseball begins Kansas series

LSU's baseball team will put their 12-0 start on the line this weekend against the Kansas Jayhawks who are currently 9-3.  The Tigers are off to their best start since 1997 when they won their first 19 games en route to a National Championship.

Coach Paul Mainieri will trot out Joey Bourgeois Friday night, followed by Jordan Rittiner on Saturday and Austin Ross on Sunday.  It was initially thought that ace pitcher Anthony Ranaudo would be able to pitch this weekend coming off of his elbow injury, but he will continue to rehab and will try to pitch next weekend against Arkansas in the SEC opener.

The programs have met for two previous series, with LSU sweeping the Jayhawks in 1990 and Kansas sweeping in 2003.  Both series were played in the old Alex Box Stadium.

Friday's first pitch will be at 7 p.m. at the Box.  WBRZ's news team will be broadcasting from the stadium for the 6 p.m. newscast.
