LSU baseball back to consensus #1 as #2 Texas A&M looms ahead
BATON ROUGE - The LSU Tigers are back to a consensus #1 ranking after two wins against Georgia, paired with two losses by Texas A&M last weekend.
With the Aggies coming to Alex Box Stadium on Thursday, it sets up a 1 vs 2 showdown, with the Tigers hosting as the top dog in America.
"Its great to be ranked number one in the country," said head coach Paul Mainieri.
"I'd certainly rather be the number one team in the country than anything else. But its subjective stuff right now. It does add a little bit of spice to the weekend series, number one versus number two."
Before the Tigers can get to the Aggies, they'll have to go through Tulane University, as the Green Wave visit the Box Tuesday night.
First pitch against Tulane is at 6:30 and Austin Bain will start for the Tigers after not being able to throw last weekend against the Bulldogs.
Bain will throw around 2 innings so that he can be fresh for a Saturday start against Texas A&M. Mainieri did not say who would start Thursday or Friday.
