LSU back in Houston for 2017 opener against BYU
BATON ROUGE - After a come-from-behind victory in front a sellout crowd in 2014, LSU will get another chance to play their season opener at NRG Stadium in Houston in 2017.
The school announced Thursday that the Tigers will open the 2017 season Sept. 2 against Brigham Young University. It's the second time LSU has appeared in the AdvoCare Texas Kickoff, and it's the first meeting between the football Tigers and BYU.
"We opened the 2014 season against Wisconsin in NRG Stadium and the turnout and response from our fans far exceeded our expectations," said Joe Alleva, LSU Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics.
The Tigers came from behind to beat Wisconsin 28-24 in the 2014 opener, scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter. The game was in front of a sellout crowd of 71,599 in NRG Stadium, the largest crowd for a college football game in that stadium's history.
