LSP: Truck driver in pileup may have been impaired
GEISMAR - State Police arrested a truck driver they suspect to have been impaired when they were involved in a multi-vehicle wreck this morning in Ascension Parish.
Troopers reopened La. 30 in Geismar after a six-vehicle pileup at 6:30 a.m. closed it for several hours. State Police said two large trucks and four cars were involved in the collision.
Trooper Jared Sandifer said the wreck started when one of the trucks and a car collided, setting off a chain-reaction collision. There were serious injuries reported, but no details on how many people were hurt.
Sandifer said one of the truck drivers was arrested in suspicion of reckless operation and negligent injuring. They also suspect he was impaired, but are waiting on toxicology reports before filing more charges.
News 2 will have more information on this wreck starting at noon.
