LSP trooper collapses, dies
HOUMA - A State Police trooper collapsed and died while on duty today, according to a department spokesperson.
Capt. Doug Cain said the trooper, Sgt. Brett Lange, collapsed while at the LSP Houma Field Office. He said other troopers called 911 and tried to revive Lange, but were unsuccessful.
EMS took Lange to Terrebonne General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. He was 48 years old.
"Sgt. Lange was a respected Trooper, but more importantly, a proud husband and father," said LSP Superintendent Col. Mike Edmonson in an emailed statement.
Lange served 23 years with the State Police, and was the supervisor for the Bureau of Investigation in the Houma Field Office. He had an additional 5 years of prior law enforcement experience with the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office and the Franklin Police Department.
Cain said an autopsy will be performed to determine how Lange died.
