LSP: Second victim dies after chemical plant explosion

GEISMAR - State Police confirmed today a second person has died due to the explosion and fire at a Geismar chemical plant Thursday morning.

Capt. Doug Cain with LSP said Scott Thrower, 47, of St. Amant succumbed to injuries sustained in the explosion at the Williams Olefins chemical plant. He was being treated at the Baton Rouge General burn unit.

The first victim, 29-year-old Zachary Green of Hammond, died yesterday. State health officials said another 72 people were injured in the blast and fire.

Officials with Williams Olefins said they were offering grief counseling for people who were at the plant and their families.
