ADDIS - Authorities confirmed they are working a hostage situation at this hour in West Baton Rouge Parish.

State Police said they are assisting Addis Police in the situation, after the suspect crashed a stolen police cruiser near the Intracoastal Canal.

Troopers said it started as a robbery at a Brusly pharmacy, and after the suspect crashed they surrounded it and called in a hostage negotiator.

La. 1 is closed at the Intracoastal Canal while authorities resolve the situation.

News 2 crews are headed to the scene and will have more details as they become available.
