LSP: Man in deputy-involved shooting shot himself
DENHAM SPRINGS - Louisiana State Police said Friday coroners determined a man who died in a deputy-involved domestic shooting this week took his own life.
Trooper Jared Sandifer said the coroner's report found Sidney Averett was shot three times on Feb. 3. Two shots were to his extremeties and not life-threatening, while the third was a self-inflicted shot to his head.
Investigators said on Feb. 3 Averett, a woman and an off-duty Livingston Parish Sheriff's deputy were involved in a domestic dispute which escalated into a shooting on Country Club lane in Denham Springs. Investigators did not identify the deputy, though neighbors told News 2 he moved in with the woman who was Averett's ex-wife.
Court records showed Averett had a divorce hearing with his wife earlier that morning.
Troopers said the case remains under investigation.
