The Louisiana State Police have taken over an investigation into a scuffle between two officials in Baker, according to the city’s police chief.
Chief Mike Knaps with the Baker Police Department said shortly after the incident last month his department asked LSP to investigate the complaint by Judge Kirk Williams.
On September 22, Williams and City Attorney Ron Wall had a confrontation at Baker City Hall over a public records request. Williams told News 2 he had been trying to get information about federal grants awarded to the city, and had been told by Wall he couldn’t view them during normal business and had to pay a fee.
Williams was recording the conversation on a video camera, and said when Wall reached for it a struggle ensued.
Knaps said Williams had also called him to request an outside agency conduct the investigation, saying he didn’t want to put Baker Police in the middle of the dispute.
