Trooper Jared Sandifer said 51-year-old Patricia Titus died in the four-vehicle wreck, which happened just after 10:30 pm Tuesday night on Plank Road.
Investigators said Christopher Price, 20, of Zachary hit Titus for unknown reasons while traveling along Plank. They said that collision led to two more crashes.
Sandifer said Titus and two people in the other wrecks suffered moderate to severe injuries and were taken to local hospitals.
Troopers said impairment or seatbelt use on the part of Price and Titus has not been determined yet, and the crash remains under investigation.
