LSP: Avoid Sunshine Bridge after wide load mishap
DONALDSONVILLE- Traffic leaving the city, headed east can not use the Sunshine Bridge since all but on lane of the bridge over the Mississippi River are closed.
State Police told drivers to avoid the area and use alternate routes late Tuesday. Immediately after the incident, only traffic headed into Donaldsonville is allowed. Later, troopers said they expect everything to be cleared by 10 p.m.
A wide load hit part of the bridge and caused structure damage. The bridge is the crossover for Highway 70 from one side of the river to the other.
DOTD crews are in route to the bridge to inspect it and perform repairs.
