JACKSON - The Louisiana Veterans Home celebrated 30 years of service to American heroes with aservice to honor the security of the country, and recall the meaning of service for all Americans.
WWII veteran Ranger Daniel Farley fought at Normandy. He landed with 73 enlisted men and three officers.
"When we left behind enemy lines, it was six of us that were walking from D-Day and one officer," said Farley. "One of those was me."
Farley remembers trudging through rivers and climbing mountains. He wears a Silver Star upon his chest, awarded by General Patton who credited him with saving a life.
"I served my country, and I'm glad I did," said Farley.
The Veterans Home also celebrated the 237th birthday of the U.S. Marine Corps, which is this Saturday, Nov. 10.
