Louisiana unemployment rate at 6 percent
NEW ORLEANS - Federal unemployment statistics show Louisiana's unemployment rate edged up to 6 percent in February. It had been 5.9 percent in January.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics report shows that the seasonally adjusted jobless rate went up despite an increase in total jobs of 9,100. Friday's preliminary figures also show a continuing increase in the number of people comprising the state labor force.
Louisiana's unemployment rate remained well below the national rate of 7.7 percent. And it was better than the state's February 2012 rate of 6.9 percent.
