Louisiana Tech student-athlete killed in accident
MOUNT IDA, Ark. - Arkansas State Police have released details about a head-on collision that killed a track-and-field athlete and engineering major at Louisiana Tech University.
Police say 22-year-old Noah James Riche of Madisonville, Louisiana, died in the Friday afternoon crash on Highway 270 east of Mount Ida, near the Joplin community in western Arkansas.
A state police report says Riche was eastbound when the car he was driving crossed the centerline and collided with a westbound vehicle. The report says Riche was dead at the scene and the driver of the other vehicle was hospitalized in undisclosed condition.
The university says Riche was returning to Ruston from Mount Ida where he had been working at a Christian children's camp.
Riche was a javelin thrower on the Tech track and field team.
