Louisiana ranks second in the nation is seafood catch, which is at a 17 year high. All regions of the U.S. show increases in both the volume and value of the fishing. NOAA says commercial fishermen caught a 23 % increase in volume and a 17 % increase in value from 2010 to last year. Alaska led all states in volume followed by Louisiana. Louisiana is fourth in value. Dutch Harbor, Alaska was the number one port for seafood volume with New Bedford, Massachusetts number one in valued catch.
