Louisiana National Guard to welcome home soldiers
BATON ROUGE - Soldiers of the Louisiana National Guard's 2228th Military Police Company, 773rd Military Police Battalion, are scheduled to return today to family and friends.
The 2228th, based at Camp Beauregard in Pineville, are returning from a 365-day deployment, with more than 130 Soldiers, from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where they conducted security operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The unit has previously participated in state response and recovery operations of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav, Ike and Isaac, as well as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010 and flood operations in 2011. They also deployed overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2008 and in support of humanitarian relief efforts to Haiti in 2010 and 2011.
A welcome home event is set for noon at Louisiana Aircraft in Baton Rouge.
