NEW ORLEANS - Floodgates opened and the Red Cross was giving out flood cleanup kits in south Louisiana while helicopter crews in the northwest searched for hot spots from wildfires.

State Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner Mike Strain says winds from Tropical Storm Lee had whipped up nine wildfires in Caddo Parish on Monday without providing any rain to help put them out. But he says they all were under control Tuesday.

In Livingston Parish, where floods forced an estimated 200 families out of their homes on Saturday, the Red Cross was scheduled to give out cleanup kits Tuesday afternoon.

A New Orleans floodgate that was shut on Friday was reopened Tuesday.

And winds flattened some sugar cane fields, which will increase both the costs of gathering seed cane and harvesting ripe cane.
