Vernon Foods, LLC, a Prairieville based food company, is recalling nearly 500 thousand pounds of "ready to eat" sausage and hog head cheese products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes according to the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
The possible contamination was discovered through a food borne illness investigation.
Eating foods that contain Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a potentially fatal disease. According to the LDAF healthy people rarely contract listeriosis.
