Louisiana 2nd worst in poverty
BATON ROUGE - According to a 2010 U.S. Census Bureau report 21.6 percent of Louisianians live in poverty. Only Mississippi fares worse at 22.7 percent.
The nation's poverty rate rose from 11.3 percent in 2000 to 15.1 percent in 2010 up from 14.3 percent the year before.
Even though the state has the second poorest citizens in the nation, unemployment is down to 7.6 percent and below the national average of 9.1 percent according to the Louisiana Workforce Commission.
