GONZALES - Former Sorrento Mayor Wilson Longanecker entered a not guilty plea Tuesday to charges of child pornography and animal cruelty in Gonzales.

Longanecker's attorneys reserved the right to change his plea to not guilty by reason of insanity.

Authorities arrested Longanecker on Oct. 23 after state and local agencies searched his home as part of an Attorney General's Office Cyber Crime investigation. Detectives said they found child porn videos on his electronics, and that forensic specialists later found images of animal torture or abuse as well.

Longanecker was mayor of Sorrento from 2011 to 2013, causing controversy by taking several extended leaves of absence. He cited medical reasons for the leaves and his lack of contact with council members and town workers.
