Long passes provide fireworks in Southern scrimmage
BATON ROUGE - The Southern University offense broke fall camp in style, landing a barrage of long passes on the way to a good performance at Doug Williams Leadership field on Saturday.
Presumptive starting quarterback Austin Howard connected with Mike Jones on a 99 yard touchdown pass to start the scrimmage and the Jaguars were just getting started. Howard completed another long pass to Jones to set up the 2nd score of the game: a short touchdown run by Lenard Tillery.
Even as the Jags changed quarterbacks, they still found the end zone, as former Central standout Jarrad Hayes hit Willie Quinn for a long touchdown pass as well.
