DENHAM SPRINGS- Many residents in Denham Springs are angry with one of their city councilmen, who was arrested in suspicion of driving drunk this weekend.
Councilman Christopher Davis was charged with DWI, hit and run and several other offenses. This is his first offense DWI.
"Public figures they should pretty much keep in line, keep straight, and shouldn't get in trouble, especially not with DWI," said resident Andrew Kurts.
State Police said it started when Davis had an accident on Highway 16 near Amite Church Road over the weekend. They said Davis drove away, and officers followed him to his home on Kennedy Avenue.
"It's dangerous, not only is it dangerous, it's selfish, you may not care about your life, but it's someone else's life, and that's the biggest deal," said Kurts.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving tries to prevent drinking and driving, and many members know first-hand what a drunk driver can leave behind.
"Thank God there were not fatalities, no serious injuries, but you never know and that's the issue around drunk driving, you really don't know what can happen," said Floyd Johnson with MADD.
As for Davis, residents say they just want what's coming to him.
"I personally think he should get the same amount of trial as everybody else. It doesn't matter what your position, where you are, you should have your day in court," says Kurt.
