LIVINGSTON - Livingston Parish President Layton Ricks plans to ask the parish council to add another $1 million to the overlay project Thursday.

Ricks says the extra money was generated through the parish's sales tax that is dedicated to road work and the parish jail. The $1 million would possibly fix more roads during phase one of the overlay project.

"It will enable the contractor to work a little bit further down the priority road list, and they're going to work that basically based on mobilization," said Ricks. "The engineer and the DPW director, who are responsible to make sure they follow this priority road list, will get together and they'll come up with two or three roads or whatever it takes."

Right now the overlay project is about 80 percent done, according to Ricks. Contractors expect to finish phase one in November then tackle another 30 roads or so next year.
