FRENCH SETTLEMENT - A young girl in Livingston Parish witnessed the destruction caused by Hurricane Harvey on television and decided to help comfort victims in a very special way.

For days, Katie Harper has kept her little fingers busy by making blankets and pillowcases for children in Texas. She says after last year's flood in Baton Rouge, she felt compelled to do something.

"A lot of my friends got flooded last year," Harper said. "I just want kids to feel comfortable and safe."

Katie's mother, Melody Harper, said her daughter's kindness warms her heart. The two are including more than just a pillowcase and blanket in each package.

Inside the donations are notes saying the items "aren't perfect, but they are made with love."

So far, the mother-daughter duo have delivered 10 sets of blankets and pillows. Each being delivered by someone who's already on their way to Texas to help with relief.
