LIVINGSTON- FEMA has refused an appeal involving $46 million dollars worth of debris removal in Livingston Parish.  The work centered on clean streams and canals after Hurricane Gustav.

A report from FEMA cited numerous problems with contractors hired to oversee the work, picking up debris ineligible for FEMA reimbursement and violations of the federal Clean Water Act.  Parish President Mike Grimmer says he will file a follow up appeal with Washington.

Debris removal contractors sued the parish earlier this year.  They claim the parish should be responsible for paying them regardless if the work is FEMA eligible.
