BATON ROUGE -The LSU Basketball Tigers (9-3) dropped a close one to the Rhode Island Rams (9-6) 74-70 in their final tune up before SEC play.
The loss is LSU's third of the season and only their second in their last 11 games.
Rhode Island was led by Fr. E.C. Matthiews who scored 21 points with 9 rebounds.
The Tigers trailed by as many as 11 with 14:56 left in the second half. LSU came all the way back and held a 59-55 lead with just over 8 minutes remaining.
Despite the loss, Jordan Mickey had another solid performance with 21 points of his own.
The major difference in the game was behind the arc. Rhode Island went 7 for 16 while LSU went 4 for 14.
Next up for the Tigers is Tennessee Volunteers on Tuesday night at 7pm in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The game will be the start of SEC play for both teams.
