Louisiana rapper Lil Wayne was taken away from court in handcuffs Monday as he started to serve a year in jail for his guilty plea in a gun case in New York. The rapper could be released in eight months with good behavior.

Lil Wayne pleaded guilty in October to attempted criminal possession of a weapon, and he admitted to having a loaded gun on his tour bus in 2007.

His sentencing was postponed last month to have surgery on his teeth. It was postponed a second time after a fire in the courthouse.
