Lightning destroys BR business
BATON ROUGE - Flames tore through the Louisiana Association of Realtors building this morning in a fire that took crews nearly 3 hours to get under control.
Investigators say a direct lightning strike caused the fire.
It happened just after 5:30 a.m. Friday in the 4600 block of Bennington Ave.
Firefighters arrived to the scene to find the west side of the building fully engulfed in flames. Officials say a portion of the roof began to collapse soon after.
Crews managed to contain the flames to the west side of the building, but the rest of the structure sustained heavy smoke and water damage.
Investigators say the fire caused more than $1 million in damage.
