Light plane crashes in Red River
SHREVEPORT - Caddo Parish sheriff's deputies say a small plane crashed in Red River after its pilot reported landing gear problems.
Detective Bobby Herring says the crash was reported just before 1:20 p.m. Sunday, after the airplane, attempting a landing at Shreveport's Downtown Airport. Herring said the pilot was told by those on the ground that his landing gear was not down, even though his instruments said the gear was down and locked.
Herring says the crash was just south of the airport in a hard-to-access area.
He says the 34-year-old pilot, who was not identified, was not injured and was rescued by a sheriff's patrol boat.
