Letters mailed from La. contained ricin, sent to NYC mayor
BATON ROUGE- State homeland security authorities said Wednesday, they are aware of threatening letters containing ricin sent to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg from an address in Louisiana and will assist in an investigation if needed.
The letters were postmarked in Shreveport and were also sent to Bloomberg's gun control group, Mayors Against Illegal Guns. Authorities said the letters were sent on May 20th.
Currently, federal agents are handling the investigation after the two letters were opened on Friday and Sunday. One was opened at a New York City mail facility and another at the office of the non-profit group in Washington, D.C.
Reportedly, the letters referenced the debate on gun laws and were filled with a pink-orange oily substance. In New York, three officers had mild symptoms of ricin, including diarrhea.
Investigators are trying to determine who sent the letters.
