MONROE - Authorities hope a graphic jailhouse letter will convince a judge to keep a teenager incarcerated in the shooting deaths of his parents.

The letter attributed to Dalton L. Fletcher says he regretted not causing greater suffering in the September 2010 shooting deaths of his parents at their home in Ouachita Parish.

The News-Star reports (http://tnsne.ws/14Vp3cj ) that it obtained the letter, allegedly written by Fletcher to his girlfriend, through a public records request.

Fletcher, who was 15 at the time of the slayings, was tried as an adult and given two life sentences.

The U.S. Supreme Court recently ruled that sentences involving juveniles tried as adults must be reviewed.

The review could result in Fletcher being eligible for parole after serving 35 years.

Prosecutors say he should never be released.
