SPRINGFIELD- A town police officer filed suit against city leaders. The lawsuit is connected to a drunk driving arrest that Mayor Charles Martin and Police Chief James Jones have been indicted for altering.
Marin and Jones face obstruction of justice, malfeasance in office, and injuring public records charges. The pair are set to be arraigned Wednesday.
Officer Ryan Weaver sued, claiming he was harassed and threatened when he arrested a woman who knew the mayor.
Tyra Jones was arrested for DUI in April 2011. Office Weaver called her a "danger."
According to court documents, the mayor and chief helped Jones get the charge downgraded to reckless endangerment.
Weaver claims he he felt uncomfortable, and reported the incident to the State Inspector General.
Mayor Martin didn't want to comment on this story Tuesday.
Weaver is still an officer on the Springfield force.
