LDWF wants you to eat more Asian Carp
Louisiana's Department of Wildlife and Fisheries wants you to eat lots of Asian carp - and to call them
Inland Fisheries administrator Gary Tilyou says the state won't ever be able to eradicate bighead and silver carp, so officials hope to create a market for their meat.
They can threaten local fish by eating plankton - the main source of many kinds of young fish, and of adult shad, paddlefish and bigmouth buffalo.
On Thursday, the department will propose letting fishermen use dip nets, spears and snagging methods to take Asian carp - and to keep any that jump into their boats.
They won't have any size or possession limits.
