BATON ROUGE- Louisiana tax filings are not being affected by the IRS' hardware failure. In a news release sent out Thursday morning, the Louisiana Department of Revenue said its tax processing systems are not being impacted by the system outage.

Earlier this week, the IRS announced that it had stopped accepting electronically filed tax returns because of problems with its computer systems.

The LDR says citizens can continue to prepare and file their state tax returns as they normally would through commercial tax preparation software or the state's free web portal, Louisiana File Online.

This year the department implemented new security measures to protect Louisiana citizens against tax fraud. Officials say the number of fraud cases have increased in recent years.
