Lawsuit over gay bar
JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI- A woman who wanted to open a gay bar in a small town sued town leaders accusing them of conspiring to prevent her from getting a business license.
Pat "PJ" Newton sued in federal court against the town of Shannon, which has about 1,700 people.
She wants to open a bar and cafe called O'Hara's but was denied by the town, which cited health and safety hazards.
She sued the mayor and six alderman with the help of the Southern Poverty Law Center, seeking money damages and an injunction to immediately open her establishment.
