Lawmakers frustrated over drilling ban
A group of lawmakers stood in support of a resolution calling for an end to bans on drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. The bi-partisan group included many state representatives from districts on, or near, the Louisiana coast.
They say bans on drilling will only add major economic problems to the Gulf oil spill. They claim a slow down in the oil and gas industry will mean more people out of work and less tax revenue being generated.
A White House spokesperson says there is no ban on shallow water drilling, but lawmakers say they have been receiving mixed information about the moratorium.
Some feel that Washington is punishing Louisiana for its own mistakes, and that President Obama's next trip to Louisiana is unnecessary, unless he has possible solutions.
