BATON ROUGE- Senators have pushed back their first vote on whether they want to cover more uninsured people in the state's Medicaid program, as allowed under the federal Affordable Care Act.

The Senate Health and Welfare Committee on delayed its decision a week, after senators said they wanted more information, including details on why Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration opposes the Medicaid expansion.

Meanwhile, the House Health and Welfare Committee continued an hours-long debate on similar legislation and was expected to vote later in the day.

The health care law pushed by President Barack Obama allows the expansion to cover adults making up to 138 percent of the poverty level, which is less than $32,000 for a family of four.
