Lawmaker proposes breakaway school district in EBR
BATON ROUGE - As the East Baton Rouge Parish school system struggles to find a superintendent to replace John Dilworth, it's also facing the possibility some schools will break from the system to form a new school district.
Senator Bodi White of Central says he will introduce legislation to create a district from I-10 east to Livingston Parish, and from I-12 south to Ascension Parish.
The proposed district would include Woodlawn High School, Woodlawn Middle, Southeast Elementary, Wedgewood Elementary and Westminster Elementary.
It will take a state constitutional amendment to allow the breakaway.
Zachary, Baker and Central broke from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System to form their own districts.
Olivia LaBorde will have more on why people in that area want out of the East Baton Rouge School district tonight on News 2 at 6.
