BATON ROUGE- Sheriffs would be allowed to work out agreements for parish-issued concealed carry permits under a bill filed by Representative Jeff Thompson, R-Bossier City.
The bill would allow parish permit protection to extend to other parishes. It also blocks sheriff's office employees from sharing permit information with the public.
State concealed carry instructor Gordon Hutchinson says parish-issued permits were more common before the state started issuing permits in the late 1990's. He says some sheriffs offered permits or special commissions that had the same benefits.
Hutchinson says state permits are already valid anywhere in Louisiana.
