BATON ROUGE- The governor's hoping a gentlemen's agreement will solve issues among lawmakers, and get a budget approved in the final hours of the legislative session Thursday.

The $25 billion spending plan includes funding for the controversial school voucher system, which pays private school tuition for students who are in failing public schools. Recently, a judge ruled using public money earmarked for education was illegal. So, the state found new revenue to use to cover the scholarship program.

The budget also includes money for traditional public schools and teacher salary increases.
"We shook hands and made an agreement," Governor Bobby Jindal said Wednesday afternoon after meeting with nine lawmakers.

They'll spend the day Thursday selling the plan, hoping to get it finalized and finished by 6 p.m., when the session must end by order of the law.
