BATON ROUGE - U.S. Rep. Jeff Landry is calling on his Republican rival, U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, to agree to a debate in the 3rd District congressional race before the November election.
The only debate planned between the two GOP congressmen - who were forced into the same district when Louisiana lost a congressional seat - has been canceled after communications problems among the University of Louisiana at Lafayette officials who were hosting the event.
Landry sent a letter to Boustany on Friday challenging him to a debate on or before Nov. 1.
No word yet from the Boustany campaign on whether Boustany will agree.
Five candidates are seeking the congressional seat. Boustany and Landry have been together for two candidate events, chamber of commerce forums that weren't debate format.
