NEW ORLEANS - U.S. Sen. Mary L. Landrieu and Congressman Cedric Richmond says the Port of New Orleans is getting $1.3 million in federal funds to help its recovery efforts associated with 2008's Hurricane Gustav.
The grant, announced Tuesday, is funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency Public Assistance Program. The money will be used to build the New Orleans Cold Storage project, a new 140,000-square-foot facility that will be located at the Henry Clay Wharf on the Mississippi River.
Authorities say the project will allow for improvements that will provide access for deep draft vessels and mitigate future flood damages.
