Landrieu raising and spending more in Senate race
LAFAYETTE - Sen Mary Landrieu continues to draw in more campaign cash than her GOP competitors, but she's also spending at a faster clip.
That gives her chief opponent, Rep. Bill Cassidy, more money in the bank as the Nov. 4 election draws near and erases any fundraising advantage for Landrieu.
The Democratic senator's campaign announced Wednesday that Landrieu raised $2.7 million in the latest fundraising quarter. She ended the period with $3.5 million in her account.
Cassidy raised nearly $2.5 million during the same time, according to his campaign. But he spent less, leaving him $4.4 million in the bank.
Republican retired Air Force Col. Rob Maness reports $388,000 in his account.
The messaging battle, however, isn't tied to individual campaign accounts. Third-party groups have poured millions of dollars into advertising.
