Lafourche Parish to take over some maintenance of La. 1
THIBODAUX - Lafourche Parish will be responsible for maintaining and operating parts of Louisiana Highway 1 and the four-lane highway from Golden Meadow to Leeville after the elevated portion of the highway is built in south Lafourche.
The Daily Comet reports the Lafourche Parish Council voted Tuesday to accept responsibilities for Louisiana Highway 3235 from Plaisance Street in Golden Meadow to its merging with Highway 1, and Highway 1 south to Leeville.
Parish Administrator Archie Chaisson says the transfer of the road from the state to parish ownership is part of a road exchange the state is requiring before it proceeds with the elevated Highway 1 project.
Chaisson said the transfer will not happen until the new elevated highway is built.
