Lafayette looking for teachers in key areas
LAFAYETTE- The Lafayette Parish School System is struggling to find teachers for certain subjects, leading to a critical shortage declaration.
However, Superintendent Donald Aguillard says the critical designation is routine and is often done by school districts.
The move allows the school system to further advertise the positions and hire retired teachers.
Aguillard said the shortage declaration particularly applies to an itinerant French teacher at Carencro High and Carencro Middle; a gifted teacher at Woodvale Elementary; a chemistry teacher at Northside High; and five math teachers, at Carencro Middle, Judice Middle, Scott Middle, David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy and Comeaux High.
According to the school system website, there are 30 positions currently open in the district, including teachers, administrators, para-professionals and others.
