LAFAYETTE- Lafayette Parish School Superintendent Pat Cooper is asking the school board to appoint a cross section of Lafayette residents to head a committee that will evaluate his recommendation for a $560 million tax proposal.
The Advertiser reports the 30 members of the Community Education Plan Committee - set for an initial vote Wednesday - will evaluate the district's needs and determine whether the tax proposal the best way to fund them.
Earlier this month, Cooper proposed putting a measure on the November ballot that would result in about $560 million to fund programs and facilities in the school district.
The money would come from a combination of property taxes and sales taxes over several years.
