A Lafayette attorney and funeral home director will chair the governing board for the public hospital to be built in New Orleans.

LSU System President John Lombardi named Elaine Abell to chair the University Medical Center Management Corp.

Abell said its first meeting will be sometime in August.

The Legislature created the private non-profit hospital corporation to oversee the replacement for Charity Hospital and the interim hospital opened after Hurricane Katrina.
