LAB Selects WBRZ as Television Station of the Year
John Pastorek honored as Lifetime Achievement Recipient
The Louisiana Association of Broadcasters recognized WBRZ as the recipient of its 2009 Television Station of the Year Award. The award recognizes WBRZ’s leadership in news, sales, production, programming, marketing, public service, and commitment to our community.
The Television Station of the Year Award is presented annually to the television station in Louisiana which best exemplifies the very highest standard and practice of the broadcast industry. Most recently, WBRZ received the award in 1990, 1991, 1994, 1997, 1999, and 2004.
“To win this award, knowing the quality of the competition is truly an honor,” said WBRZ-TV President, Richard Manship. “Every single employee contributed and every one of them deserves the credit.”
Also honored by LAB was John Pastorek, anchor and reporter for WBRZ for more than 32 years, as the recipient of the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award. Pastorek was recognized for his commitment to our community, as well as for his passionate reporting . Pastorek is co-host of the popular morning show 2une In which airs from 5am-7am on WBRZ.
Denise Akers, WBRZ’s Director of Marketing, was also honored with the LAB 2009 Distinguished Service Award. This award recognizes an individual who has served 25 years or more in the broadcast industry. Akers has been with WBRZ for over 31 years.
The awards were presented at the LAB Annual Prestige Awards banquet held Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the L ‘Auberge du Lac Casino Resort in Lake Charles, Louisiana.
